The Atlanta Falcons led New England 28-3 early in the third quarter of Super Bowl LI on 5 February 2017, a deficit nobody had come back from in the 50 Super Bowls played before it, and parts of the Atlanta support were already celebrating. The New England defence tightened, and Tom Brady, on his way to a Super Bowl-record 466 passing yards, began taking the lead apart possession by possession.
A two-point conversion with just over a minute left made it 28-28 and sent a Super Bowl to overtime for the first time. The drive that tied it survived on a 23-yard catch by Julian Edelman, who collected the ball off a defender's hands on his fingertips an inch above the turf. James White scored the winning touchdown on New England's overtime possession.
The 34-28 final was the largest comeback in Super Bowl history by a wide margin, and the fifth championship of the Brady and Belichick era.
